2012   Distribution of Two Documentaries on Saving Salmon

ES is distributing 900 DVDs of each of the two documentaries to high school science teachers, high school libraries,Oregonlibraries, government agencies, community groups, and individuals.  The documentaries are available on YouTube, the ES Website, and will be aired on SOP-TV in February and later via community television.


2011  Production of Two Documentaries on Saving Salmon

ES completes production of two one-hour documentaries:  “Sustaining Salmon:  Fishermen, Scientists, and Project CROOS;” and “Saving Salmon:  Bringing C. shasta Back into Balance.”  Documentaries are based on video material developed for “Learn Genetics to Save Salmon” that centers on two Oregon Research Projects: Project CROOS at theHatfieldMarineScienceCenterand the C. shasta work of Professor Jerri Bartholomew at OSU.

2011  Spring High School Project “Learn Genetics to Save Salmon”

Funded by the Gordon Elwood and Cow Creek Indian Foundations, ES completes six-week biology project involving 207 students in eight biology classes from fourOregonand oneCaliforniahigh schools.  The content is, based on genetics and ecology material from two Oregon Research Projects:  Project CROOS at theHatfieldMarineScienceCenterand the C. shasta work of Professor Jerri Bartholomew at OSU.


2010  KB  Documentary Distribution

“Vision of the River: Working Together on the Klamath” 

ES distributes 900 DVDs to high school science teachers, high school libraries, Oregon libraries, government agencies, community groups, and individuals.  Documentary plays on community television and SOP-TV.

ES completes project involving 315 students from nine Upper and Lower Basin high schools.  February 2009


2008  KB  Pilot Project

Funded by the Gordon Elwood Foundation and the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation, ES implements pilot project involving 70 students from two Upper Basin high schools.  April-May, 2008


2007  KB  Curriculum Development and Grant Writing

ES revises curriculum based on Klamath Basin stakeholder, scientist, and teacher feedback.  ES submits grants to fund pilot of “Sharing the Klamath Watershed:  Bringing Together the Next Generation of Stakeholders."

ES assembles and distributes collection of solutions from Basin stakeholders and scientists.

2006  KB  Cablecast and DVD Distribution

 As two DVDs are taped for future use in the ES Klamath Basin high school dialogue project, they are broadcast live to the Klamath Falls, Oregon community.  DVDs are distributed to high schools, Klamath Basin libraries, government agencies and individuals. The two DVDs demonstrate stakeholder and science collaboration in the Klamath Basin.  Spring 2006

1) Farms and Fish features a dialogue between two stakeholder leaders, Greg Addington, Executive Director of the Klamath Water Users Association (KWUA), andLeaf Hillman, Vice Chair of the Karuk Tribe, moderated by ES Director Judith Jensen. The presentation includes questions from the studio audience of stakeholder leaders: Craig Bienz, Nature Conservancy; Scott Boley, Gold Beach, OR fisherman; Troy Fletcher, Yurok Tribe; Brenda Frank, OR Board of Education and Klamath Tribes; Steve Kandra, KWUA; Marshall Staunton, Tulelake farmer and the Hatfield Upper Klamath Basin Working Group; as well as Marita Kunkel of the OIT Library and Steve Kadel of the Herald and News.

2) Using the Best Available Science to Restore the Upper Klamath Basin features four scientists from the Hatfield Science Team chosen by different stakeholder groups for a collaborative effort to develop strategies to restore the Upper Klamath Basin. Moderated by Terry Morton of Cascade Quality Solutions, the scientists are Mark Buettner, U.S. Fish and Wildlife; Harry Carlson, UC Inter Mountain Research and Extension Center; Larry Dunsmoor, Klamath Tribes; and Bob Gearheart, Humboldt State Environmental Engineering.


2005  KB  Curriculum

ES begins distributing its high school curriculum on Klamath Basin water issues to Basin stakeholder leaders and scientists for feedback on balance and accuracy.

2005  KB  International Pilot Dialogue – Water Shortage 

In the first test of the ES University Dialogue Model, students at the American University of Sharjah, UAE, and at the Oregon Institute of Technology studied an ES curriculum about water shortage in the Klamath Basin and in the UAE study and dialogued about course content via the ES Website and videoconferencing.  February 2005
